Teaching Assistant Adirondack Academy – HFM BOCES Support Students. Build Relationships. Change Lives. Adirondack Academy, an alternative education program within HFM BOCES, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support in a challenging yet highly rewarding educational environment. An understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and trauma-informed practices is essential. Responsibilities: Assist teachers in implementing instructional activities and supporting student learning. Provide individual and small-group academic support to students. Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment. Build supportive relationships with students while reinforcing classroom expectations and routines Assist with behavior support strategies and interventions as directed by classroom teachers and administrators. Support students in developing organizational, social, and problem-solving skills. Monitor student engagement and communicate concerns or successes with the instructional team. Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned. Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and administrators to promote student success. Qualifications: New York State Teaching Assistant Certification (or eligibility for certification). Experience working with adolescents in educational, youth development, or related settings preferred. Understanding of ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and trauma-informed practices. Ability to remain patient, calm, and supportive in challenging situations. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to working with students in an alternative education setting. Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and responsive to student needs. TEACH Clearance Per Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
