The district has three schools operating within one building complex located in Fonda, the county seat of Montgomery County.The elementary school consists of students in Pre-K to grade 4. Here, literacy is the main focus. The K-3 reading program is grounded in scientifically-based research with a goal of having all students reading at grade level by the end of third grade. An emphasis is placed on critical thinking, thought-provoking writing and detail-focused work in all core subject areas.At FFCSD, the Six Pillars of Character—Respect, Caring, Fairness, Trustworthiness, Responsibility and Citizenship are important and emphasized throughout the elementary school day. Together with strong academic programs, these pillars help to ensure that all students succeed and are well prepared for future challenges.Students in grades 5-8 are in a time of transition. They are growing physically, emotionally and intellectually. Teachers, working with a variety of support personnel, offer a bridge between home and school, providing the means to ensure academic achievement.Teachers work together as a team to provide integrated lessons that span all subject areas. Classes are grouped heterogeneously and special needs students are included in the team teaching. In addition to state-mandated courses, accelerated classes in several subjects are offered for grade 8 students.In high school, counselors help students plan an individualized course of study from among the required classes and the wide variety of electives we offer, including our Career Preparation course.Through the Ventures in Entrepreneurship sequence, students learn how to operate a small business. The New Visions Health Careers program offers students a chance to explore career options in the healthcare industry and the College in the High School program gives students the opportunity to earn college credit. Also offered are Advanced Placement and distance learning classes, as well as an Alternative Education program.FFCS athletics and music programs are among the best in the area. Band and chorus students are routinely recognized for their outstanding performances and the sports teams are known for excelling on and off the field.
