The Adirondack Academy at HFM BOCES seeks applicants for a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track Behaviorist. Additional work may also be available over the summer months. The Behaviorist provides support and staff development to BOCES staff to enhance students’ academic, social and emotional growth. They develop and assess individual student plans and also model de-escalation techniques. The Behaviorist reports directly to the Principal of Alternative Education. The incumbent in this position will:Provide classroom-based consultation to teachers and support staff in designing appropriate classroom environments and instructional plans for students who struggle to be successful with tier 1 supportsProvide direct staff development to BOCES staff to develop/maintain necessary skills supporting PBIS expectations and individual student plansParticipate in CSE/504 meetings as appropriate to review the programs of studentsSit in classrooms as needed to observe student behavior, acquire data for plan development/determine if plan is workingCo-facilitate PBIS program and meetingsMaintain necessary recordsPerform other such professional related duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Administrative CoordinatorJob Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum 5 years experience including but not limited to:Experience working with at risk youthKnowledge of PBISFamiliar with restorative justiceExperience developing individualized student plansAbility to assess student growth through data collectionUnderstanding of adolescent development and the impacts of trauma on brain development.Desire to work in a team environment is a must.NYS Certification as a Special Education Teacher, School Counselor, School Psychologist or related field is required. Formal job offer/selection is contingent on ability to obtain a fingerprint supported criminal history background check through the TEACH system prior to working.
