***Please note this position requires someone who can speak Spanish fluently and is able to work a non-traditional schedule*** The HFM BOCES department of Adult Literacy & Corrections Education seeks applicants for a full-time, Spanish speaking Adult Educator/Case Manager working with adult English Language Learners. This instructional role will involve teaching English as a Second Language and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education. This is a full-time, 10-month teaching position; it is a non-traditional schedule requiring two evenings per week. There is a possibility of 30 days of work in the summer (July through mid-August) in response to demand. The position is grant funded; therefore, it is appointed annually as funding allows. Experience teaching adults is preferred. Proficiency with computers, online learning platforms and varied Windows based software is required. The successful candidate must hold a current NYS teaching certificate, or be qualified to attain a NYS Adult Educator’s certificate. The goals of the program include helping adult English Language Learners with the following: Develop reading, writing, speaking, listening and comprehension skills in English Develop digital literacy and other workplace skills to support educational and employment pursuits Integrate education and workplace training, special attention to healthcare and carpentry Transition to high school equivalency preparation, apprenticeships, training, college and/or employment Succeed in in-person instruction, distance learning and hybrid learning opportunities Obtain and advance in employment leading to economic self-sufficiency Understand the American system of government, individual freedom, the responsibilities of citizenship, how to exercise those rights through civic participation Pathways to citizenship Formal job offer/selection is contingent on ability to obtain a fingerprint supported criminal history background check through the TEACH system prior to working.
