HFM BOCES Regional Transportation is accepting applicants for a full-time, 12-month Bus Driver Trainer.Distinguishing Feature Of The Class;The work involves training new school bus drivers as necessary and observing on a regular basis licensed bus drivers according to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicle regulations to certify Class II drivers each year to drive a school bus. The work is performed under general supervision with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgement in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.Typical Work Activities (Illustrative but not exhaustive):Trains perspective drivers in preparation for taking and passing the New York State Motor Vehicle Department Class II bus driving test;Maintains records of mileage, routes, times and incidents;Conducts classes in school bus driver safety;Conducts road tests on an annual basis to license all bus drivers as Class II certified;Reports operational defects or incidents to immediate supervisor;Prepares and maintains a variety of reports and records;The above examples of duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:Thorough knowledge of pertinent sections of Vehicle and Traffic Law;Good knowledge of how to operate buses;Good knowledge of safety features of buses;Ability to operate a bus under difficult driving and road conditions;Ability to understand and interpret written materials;Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;Dependability;Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Minimum Qualifications:Candidates must possess and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License to drive a bus and have three years of experience transporting students to and from school; andCandidates must possess an Article 19-A Certified Examiner certificate and a School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate.Special Requirement: None.Please click on the Civil Service Application.
