School District TreasurerJob Summary: The School District Treasurer is responsible for tracking and recording finances of the school district. The School District Treasurer is appointed by the Board of Education and serves at the pleasure of the Board. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Business, the incumbent performs responsible financial record keeping for the school district as mandated by State Education Law. The incumbent is required to submit periodic reports to the Board of Education who formulates the financial policies of the district.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor Degree in Accounting or FinancePrior experience in accounting and financeFamiliarity with the laws, regulations, procedures and policies related to school district financesDetailed orientedAbility to follow oral and written instructionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationshipsAbility to deal effectively with the public when necessary Primary Activities:Receives district funds from various levels of government and other sources, prepares bank deposits and makes physical deposits in the bank when necessary.May need to handle cash/checks and reconciles accounts with control ledgers and bank accounts monthly to produce a Treasurer’s report.Records District receipts and disbursements and maintains all backup for audit review.Develops cash flow forecast and transfers funds as necessary to meet cash flow requirements on a weekly basis between our investment account and the various multiple checking accounts.Performs wire transfers for payroll, accounts payable and other vendor payments in a Multi-factor authentication ( MFA ) environment. Activates Positive Pay feature when payroll and accounts payable checks are processed.Posts ledger accounts, balances accounts and reconciles bank statements.Maintains schedules for borrowed funds and makes principal and interest payments and/or records the borrowing and payments by the District for debt payments. Discusses accounting and financial concerns with responsible officials of the District.Performs periodic special financial projects as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent for Business.Signs all checks issued by the District and handles all bank transactions, adjustments, etc.Works with the Internal Auditor to provide backup and detail for transactionsFiles the annual sales tax returnExperience with nVision software utilizing Accounting, Accounts Receivable and other modules as neededPrepare invoices in the Accounts receivable module for retiree health insurance, tuition billings and other miscellaneous invoices throughout the year.May be asked to assist the Accountant position and other Business Office staff with their duties as deemed necessary and more specifically during the annual audit preparation. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and regionally competitive.
