Director of Equity, Opportunity & Belonging District Wide Director of Equity, Opportunity & Belonging Estimated start date: August 20, 2026 Schedule: 10-month position (plus seven summer days) Certification Required: NYSED SBL or SDL NYSED Fingerprint Clearance required Salary Range: $120,000 - 135,000 (plus paid summer days - Paid with Daily Per Diem) POSITION SUMMARY : The Hastings-on-Hudson Union Free School District seeks a dedicated and student-centered Director of Equity, Opportunity & Belonging. This position plays a central role in fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful school culture that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. The Director will work collaboratively with district leadership, school administrators, staff, students, families, and community partners to promote equity, opportunity, and a sense of belonging for all. The Director aligns their work with the Portrait of a Hastings Learner and supports the implementation of New York State’s Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-SE) Framework. The role emphasizes relationship-based practices, equitable systems, and student voice to ensure that all students are affirmed, supported, and held to high expectations. Through restorative practices, proactive attendance support, and collaboration with faculty and staff, the Director helps ensure students remain connected to school and engaged in their learning. The Director reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. KEY QUALIFICATIONS Master’s in Education, Counseling, School Leadership, or a related field New York State certification Experience working with elementary, middle, and/or high school students Experience as a classroom teacher Demonstrated knowledge of restorative practices, trauma-informed approaches, implicit bias, and CR-SE principles Demonstrated ability to collaborate with district leaders, building administrators, staff, families, and community partners LEADERSHIP QUALITIES Possess the following leadership attributes as stated in the Portrait of a Hastings Learner : bold, collaborative, empathetic, empowered, inquisitive, inventive Knowledge of the diverse needs of students, including those at-risk Extensive expertise in providing training, professional development, technical assistance, and support to school and school personnel Knowledge of policies and State and Federal laws pertaining to youth development, support services, and progressive discipline. Experience working with schools to implement and improve student support and address whole-school culture. Superior ability to manage and administer youth development initiatives. Exceptional organizational and project management skills ROLES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: I. CULTURE AND CLIMATE Lead the development of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school culture where students’ identities and lived experiences are affirmed Drive school practices aligned with the District’s Portrait of a Learner, including responsibility, empathy, reflection, and civic engagement Lead the implementation of the New York State CR-SE Framework by advancing instructional and other practices that are culturally responsive, sustaining, and affirming Direct collaboration with district and school administrators, faculty, and staff to analyze school climate, discipline data, and student experiences through an equity lens, and lead resulting corrective action Lead collaboration of district and school administrators on student behavior interventions, including Code of Conduct, Dignity Act (DASA), and restorative practices Lead and coordinate district-wide celebration and awareness activities II. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES Lead and facilitate restorative conversations, mediations, and problem-solving meetings that center accountability, repair of harm, and relationship-building Establish and ensure consistent implementation of restorative practices in collaboration with faculty and staff across classrooms and school settings Build and model staff capacity in trauma-informed and restorative approaches Design and enforce disciplinary practices that are fair, developmentally appropriate, and focused on learning, growth, and reintegration across the district III. STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & VOICE Elevate student voice and promote inclusive decision-making practices within the school community Lead collaborations with counselors, teachers, administrators, and families to address attendance challenges proactively Develop, implement, and monitor targeted interventions for students experiencing chronic absenteeism Lead collaboration with school administrators, faculty, and staff to promote daily attendance as an essential component of student success and well-being IV. DISTRICT-WIDE CAPACITY FOR STUDENT BELONGING Establish and manage building-based equity leadership teams Lead coordination with building administrators to analyze attendance data to identify patterns and inequities, and lead resulting corrective action Conduct and leverage teacher evaluations to strengthen quality instruction and student achievement Design, lead, and facilitate professional learning for faculty and staff related to implicit bias, culturally responsive practices, and equitable student educational experiences Other related duties, as assigned.
