The Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources is an executive-level member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and provides strategic leadership to advance the District’s core values—Equity, Access, Rigor, and Adaptability. The role strengthens the District’s people and culture by recruiting, developing, and supporting exceptional educators; promoting a positive and inclusive workplace; and ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and care for students and staff. The Assistant Superintendent leads all major aspects of the District’s human resources work in close partnership with district and building leaders.Key ResponsibilitiesLead Districtwide Recruitment & Staffing: Attract, hire, and retain exceptional certificated staff; oversee staffing allocations, position planning, and demographic projections in consultation with the Assistant Superintendent for Business.Guide Employee Growth & Evaluation: Oversee teacher and administrator evaluation systems; lead tenure processes and performance conversations that promote excellence.Strengthen HR Systems, Data, & Organizational Practices: Build and maintain efficient HR systems that support accuracy, transparency, and accountability in recordkeeping, reporting, and personnel operations.Provide Strategic Counsel to the Superintendent & Board: Serve as the Superintendent’s liaison to the District’s legal counsel and advise on personnel matters, policy interpretation, workplace issues, negotiations, and compliance with state and federal employment law.Serve as Labor Relations Leader: Partner with members of the Superintendent’s cabinet to co-lead all negotiations; maintain collaborative, productive relationships with bargaining units; and manage grievance procedures.Ensure Fair, Ethical Employee Relations: Conduct and oversee employee investigations, workplace accommodations, and personnel problem-solving with professional care.Steward Compliance Requirements: Ensure compliance with certification, background checks, civil rights laws (DASA, Title VI, Title IX, EEOC), required training, and NYSED reporting.Lead District Policy Review Process: Serve as Superintendent’s liaison to the Board of Education Policy Subcommittee to lead ongoing review of District policies and regulations.Develop District Calendars: Lead development of the school year calendar and employee work year calendars in partnership with district and union stakeholders.Provide Leadership for Health & Safety Systems: Oversee school health services and lead districtwide safety planning, training, and coordination with law enforcement and health partners, serving as the Superintendent’s liaison to the Harrison Police Department and the Department of Health.Supervise Key District Leaders: Provide leadership and direction to the Director of Special Education and the Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics.Required QualificationsNew York State School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) certificationSuccessful experience in educational leadership or human resourcesStrong understanding of New York State education law and effective HR practices
