GUILDERLAND CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICTFACILITIES DEPARTMENTJOB DESCRIPTION FOR: CUSTODIAL WORK SUPERVISOR GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position is responsible supervisory work in directing custodial activities in multiple or large public buildings, surrounding grounds and walks. The incumbent in this class is in charge of large scale cleaning operations for a facility. Oversight of custodial personnel is the primary characteristic of this class and general supervision may be exercised over lower level supervisors. Employees make routine decisions pertaining to the work but confer with a superior in unusual situations or on matters of policy. Work is subject to inspection by an administrative person. Does related work as required.RESPONSIBILITIES:Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of a large group of employees performing routine cleaning and custodial tasks in a public building;May supervise custodial work supervisor I employees;Trains new employees in the performance of such duties as sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, washing windows, cleaning lavatory fixtures, and replenishing necessary supplies;Directs and supervises activities related to the maintenance of adjacent grounds and walks, such as seeding, mowing, and watering lawns and shoveling snow;Makes periodic inspection of buildings to see that employees are performing work in accordance with instructions and to check for needed repairs;Maintains necessary records and prepares required reports relating to personnel, supplies, equipment, and work performed; estimates the need for supplies and equipment;May be responsible for checking to ensure that the building is heated, cleaned, locked/unlocked and in readiness for all activities.Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning and related custodial operations;Thorough knowledge of the operation of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment;Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of a large number of employees engaged in a variety of routine custodial tasks;Ability to train employees in cleaning and other custodial tasks;Ability to estimate equipment and supply needs in advance;Ability to keep records and prepare reports;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, other employees and supervisors;Resourceful, dependable, responsible and adaptive;Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. REQUIRED EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in custodial work of which two (2) years were served in a supervisory capacity.LICENSES / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Asbestos (AHERA) Certification within One Year
