The full time position is located at Altamont Elementary School for grades 3-5 self-contained special class. Student composition of the classroom includes students who are eligible for the New York State Alternative Assessment exams and have delays in cognition, communication, and adaptive behavior skills. Most students have developmental disabilities including autism, cognitive impairments or multiple disabilities. Starting date is September 1, 2021. Salary as per contract. Multiple certifications preferred including NYS Students with Disabilities Birth-Grade 2 and/ or NYS Certification in Literacy . Individuals must possess good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, be well organized, as well as have an understanding of elementary curriculum, IEPs, and modifications. Experience with behavior interventions, curriculum modifications, and working as a team are essential.Candidates must work collaboratively with general education teachers.Experience in elementary settings is preferred.
