Great Neck Public Schools has an opening for a Library-Media Dept Head for one of their high schools. Primary function: Oversee and evaluate the building's Library-Media Center and educational technology program and staff, (and with a valid NYS Teaching & Administrative Certification) serve as the school's Technology Staff Developer or one of two Library-Media Specialists.Duties and responsibilities:Evaluate and provide the library-media center program with service and materials adequate to meet the needs of the curriculum, the students, and the school community, as well as to meet state and national standards.Provide resources and materials that are supportive of the total educational program, including books, databases, computer software, and audio-visual materials.Assist classroom teachers in planning, teaching and implementing a coordinated program of instruction in library/information research skills at all grade levels.Instruct students and faculty in the use of library materials, databases, and equipment.Create and maintain an atmosphere conductive to effective library, classroom technology, and 1-1 device use.Prepare special and selected bibliographies and resources upon request.Establish budgeting and purchasing procedures and evaluating, selecting, ordering, cataloging, processing, circulation and accounting for library, 1-1 device, software, and audio-visual materials.Prepare, maintain, and administer the library-media technology, audio-visual, and computer software budgets.Maintain accurate records of library, textbook, software and audio-visual holdings.Review and dispose of obsolete and worn materials from collections on a regular basis.
