Position The Greenburgh Central School District is seeking highly qualified, dependable, and compassionate professionals to serve in the capacity of Substitute School Nurses (RN/LPN). This essential position is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff during the temporary absence of the regularly assigned school nurse. Substitute School Nurses are required to provide skilled, student-centered care across elementary, middle, and high school environments, adapting nursing practices to effectively address the developmental, emotional, and physical health requirements of students across all grade levels. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exemplary clinical judgment, professionalism, and a nurturing, student-focused methodology while ensuring stringent compliance with all district, state, and healthcare regulations. This enumeration of duties is not exhaustive, and other related responsibilities may be assigned as necessitated. Key Responsibilities Include: The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Administer first aid, emergency care, and conduct clinical assessments for students and staff experiencing illness or injury during the school day. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in strict accordance with authorized physician orders, district policies, and New York State regulations. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential health records, documentation, and daily nursing logs in compliance with district and regulatory standards. Implement and adhere to all provisions of Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for students with identified medical needs. Monitor, manage, and meticulously document chronic health conditions, including but not limited to asthma, diabetes, allergies, and seizure disorders, to ensure student safety and continuity of care. Identify, document, and formally report communicable diseases in strict accordance with district procedures and Department of Health guidelines. Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, staff, and administrators regarding student health concerns and established care plans. Promote a secure and salubrious school environment through strict adherence to infection control procedures and established best nursing practices. Collaborate with district nursing personnel and school administrators to ensure the consistent and coordinated provision of health services across all institutional buildings. Demonstrate flexibility and maintain a high level of professionalism when assigned to diverse school sites and grade levels within the district. Maintain a calm, compassionate, and professional demeanor while consistently providing high-quality care and support to the entire school community. Qualifications Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in New York State (required) Current certification in CPR and First Aid (required) Prior experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing preferred Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment, particularly in emergency situations Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with students, families, staff, and administrators Knowledge of state and district health regulations, immunization requirements, and infection control standards Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, ethical practice, and professional standards APPOINTMENT: Appointment to this position shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, following a comprehensive review of the candidate’s training, experience, certifications, credentials, and demonstrated qualifications.
