Greenburgh Central School District Position Title: Assitant Principal, Probationary Reports To: Building Principal Location: Early Childhood Program (ECP) – Main Campus FLSA Status: GAO Salary: $119,155 + GREENBURGH CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (PROBATIONARY APPOINTMENT) Position Overview The Greenburgh Central School District, a K–12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School District, seeks a dynamic and student-centered Assistant Principal for our Early Childhood program, effective July 1, 2026. The Assistant Principal will report to the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and support the district in advancing the district’s mission by promoting high levels of academic achievement, equity, and social-emotional development for all students. This role blends instructional leadership with operational oversight, with a focused emphasis on early childhood education, early literacy, and developmentally appropriate, student-centered practices. The Assistant Principal promotes equity, access, and excellence by supporting high-quality instruction, strengthening school-family-community partnerships, and ensuring compliance with New York State and applicable early childhood regulations (including OCFS and/or DOHMH, where applicable). Essential Performance Responsibilities Instructional Leadership & Equity Support the implementation of district priorities related to equity, culturally responsive-sustaining education, and high-quality instruction. Promote and monitor standards-based curriculum, including play-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood practices. Lead efforts to strengthen early literacy development using research-based strategies. Analyze multiple measures of student data (e.g., literacy assessments, Teaching Strategies Gold) to inform instruction and close achievement gaps. Support differentiated instruction for multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and diverse learners. Assist in implementing district initiatives, curriculum development, and instructional improvement efforts. Provide coaching, feedback, and job-embedded professional learning aligned with district goals and best practices. Facilitate professional learning communities, grade-level teams, and staff development opportunities. Support teachers in classroom management, student engagement, and inclusive instructional strategies. School Climate and Culture Foster a safe, inclusive, and affirming school climate that supports students’ social-emotional development. Implement student discipline practices aligned with district policy, emphasizing restorative approaches and proactive interventions. Support attendance initiatives and promote student engagement. Coordinate support and services for students in collaboration with counselors, special education teams, and outside agencies. Assist with student orientation, recognition programs, and enrichment opportunities. Build strong, trusting relationships with families through clear, consistent, and culturally responsive communication. Support and expand family engagement opportunities (e.g., workshops, conferences, school events). Partner with community-based organizations to enhance student and family support systems. Operations Assist with the management of daily school operations, including scheduling and supervision. Oversee supervision of common areas (arrival/dismissal, cafeteria, transitions). Support student enrollment processes and maintain accurate records, including attendance. Lead preschool lottery process. Ensure appropriate staffing ratios and operational compliance in early childhood programs. Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and supervising staff. Assist in budget development and resource allocation. Support coordination of school events (assemblies, field trips, performances). Serve on school and district committees and contribute to district-wide initiatives. Provide Principal coverage as needed. Assessment & Accountability Ensure compliance with New York State Education Department requirements and applicable early childhood regulations (OCFS/DOHMH). Implement and monitor safety protocols, including drills and emergency preparedness plans. Support staff evaluation processes and performance accountability. Utilize assessment tools (e.g., CLASS, ECERS-R) to monitor program quality and instructional effectiveness. Apply data-driven decision-making to improve student outcomes and program performance. Maintain knowledge of education laws, policies, and regulations to ensure adherence and accountability. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of early childhood development, early literacy, and developmentally appropriate practices. Experience with PreK grants and grant funding. Understanding of culturally responsive-sustaining education and equitable instructional practices. Experience with curriculum development, assessment systems, and data-driven instruction. Experience with Brigance Erly Childhood Screener and similar early childhood screeners/assessment tools (preferred). Knowledge of behavior management, restorative practices, and multi-tiered systems of support. Strong leadership, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse students, staff, and family populations. Knowledge of New York State education laws, policies, and regulations. Qualifications Education & Certification Master’s degree in education, Early Childhood Education, or related field. Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) Certification. New York State Teaching Certification (Early Childhood or Childhood Education preferred). Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience, preferably in elementary and/or early childhood settings. Demonstrated leadership experience in instructional supervision or program coordination. Experience with regulatory compliance (e.g., OCFS, DOHMH), strongly recommended.
