Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services Probationary AppointmentCERTIFICATION:Valid New York State Certification required: School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL)Multilingual applicants encouraged to applySTART DATE: Anticipated July 2025 SALARY:Terms of employment are in accordance with the Greenburgh Administrative Organization (GAO) ContractSalary is commensurate with experiencePosition Overview: The Greenburgh Central School District, a PK–12 district offering International Baccalaureate programs across all grade levels, seeks a collaborative and visionary Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services. This role oversees a range of student support services, including special education, health services, psychological and social work services, guidance, homebound instruction, Section 504, and related programs. The Director will work closely with educators, administrators, families, and community partners to support student success and foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, Programs, and PersonnelKey Responsibilities:Leadership & Program OversightProvide administrative leadership for all special education programs in accordance with IDEA, as well as federal and state regulations.Develop and implement goals for Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services aligned with district plan and student success outcomes.Oversee support services for students through collaborative efforts with school administrators, central office departments, families, and external agencies.Direct or supervise staff within the department; support recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.Policy & ComplianceRecommend and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Monitor and direct services such as homeschooling, shared housing, religious exemptions, foster care, non-resident enrollment, foreign exchange students, reentry from incarceration, and placement of students transitioning from alternative settings.Budget & Grant OversightDevelop budget recommendations and manage approved budgets for all department service areas.Review and approve grant proposals; encourage continued grant development and allocate necessary resources.Collaborate with district leadership to manage and allocate program budgets effectively.Professional Development & CommunicationOversee professional development activities for staff within the department.Approve and support the creation of communications and materials for families, staff, and the school board.Coordination and CommunicationCross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with our building principals, academic leaders, and PLC Content Leads to ensure alignment with district goals.Community Engagement: Communicate district program priorities effectively to parents, students, and community members to garner support and understanding.Data Analysis: Regularly analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and assess program impact.Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate ongoing communication with community stakeholders to promote district programs and maintain transparency.Perform related work as required.Qualifications:Certifications & ExperienceValid New York State Certification required: School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL)Minimum of 5 years of experience in education, with at least 3 years in an instructional leadership role.Experience in supervising or supporting PPS and Special Education departments.Skills & AbilitiesProven ability to lead professional development initiatives and build capacity within teams.Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to use data to inform decisions and drive programmatic improvements.Commitment to student well-being and creating inclusive environments.
