As a small rural district, Germantown CSD is the center of learning and community life in picturesque Columbia County. The district serves approximately 500 students in a single PK-12 building. The personalized nature of our building empowers students to learn in a supportive environment that encourages academic excellence and lifelong learning. Students are also encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as academic/leadership clubs, volunteerism and sports. The District is located 40 miles south of New York State's Capital, Albany, and 120 miles north of New York City with spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River which have long served as the backdrop for artists. BUILDING MAINTENANCE MECHANICS (School Districts & BOCES) DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is moderately important supervisory work involving the responsibility for the efficient and high quality maintenance and repair work on public buildings. The work is performed in accordance with general practices, policies and objectives outlined by a supervisor, but the use of a considerable amount of independent judgment is required in the organization of the work. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) Plans, supervises and participates in repairs of the plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry and mechanical problems; Estimates the cost of labor and materials; Directs and participates in planning, pruning and spraying of shrubs and trees, cutting lawns and hedges, grading and seeding lawns, propagating trees and shrubs, removal of snow and ice; Repairs locks and installation of window glass; Operates heating and ventilating system involving thermostatic controls; Plans, supervises and participates in painting work ; Services and maintains all electrical installations. (CGCC- HVAC systems) FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Good knowledge of practices, processes, tools and materials used in the maintenance of buildings ; good knowledge of buildings, all mechanical, electrical and sanitary equipment; skill as a general mechanic; ability to follow and carry out detailed oral and written instructions; initiative; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Several years of experience in general building maintenance or building trades handyman work and the completion of a standard grade school course; or one year of experience as a journeyman in each of two of the following trades; carpentry, plumbing, masonry or electrical; or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate the ability to do the work. (CGCC- two years of experience in HVAC, N . Y.S. qualified to serve refrigerants.)
