The Germantown School District is a comprehensive, rural public school district that is dedicated to providing opportunity, resources, environment , and instruction so that all students may be productive, successful, independent, responsible, and contributing member of our global society.As a small rural district, Germantown CSD is the center of learning and community life in picturesque Columbia County. The district serves approximately 500 students in a single PK-12 building. The personalized nature of our building empowers students to learn in a supportive environment that encourages academic excellence and lifelong learning. Students are also encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as academic/leadership clubs, volunteerism and sports. The District is located 40 miles south of New York State's Capital, Albany, and 120 miles north of New York City with spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River which have long served as the backdrop for artists.Distinguishing Features of the Class: The work involves assisting in the administration of anoffice to increase the effectiveness of the staff and carrying out the day-to-day activities requiredto accomplish the work. The work is performed in accordance with general instructions andobjectives. The incumbent works under general supervision with leeway for independentjudgment, receiving detailed instructions only where policies have not been determined. Maysupervise a small clerical staff. Does related work as required.Typical Work Activities: (Illustrative only)Maintains and Communicates Daily Attendance data and records;Assists in the organization and coordination of the administrative duties of an office;Handles incoming correspondence and types routine replies;Handles telephone calls and visitors responding to questions;May assist in coordinating and arranging meetings or travel arrangements;Orders supplies and materials for the office;Maintains confidential files and general office files;Schedules use of departmental facilities;Types correspondence, memos, and other materials using typewriter, word processor orpersonal computer.Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:Thorough knowledge of agency policies, procedures and functions; good knowledge of officeterminology and vocabulary; good knowledge of office practices, procedures and principles ofoffice management; ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people atall levels of the department; ability to analyze and summarize information; ability to supervisethe work of others; ability to use modern office equipment including all types of alphanumerickeyboards; ability to type at a rate of 35 words per minute; ability to handle confidential matterswith good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Minimum qualifications:A. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years ofclerical experience, two years of which shall have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity;ORB. An associate degree in secretarial science or related field and two years of clerical experience whichshall have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity; ORC.
