Job Title: Assistant Director of Special EducationReports to: Director of Special Education Job Goal: The role of Assistant Director of Special Education is to assist the Director of Special Education in oversight of the District’s Special Education Department in accordance with district policies, procedures and state and federal laws. The Assistant Director will support the Director of Special Education in the overall operations of the department. The supervisory responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: school health services, speech and language services, special education, home instruction, CSE and CPSE, Section 504 services, IST, and non-public school services. Responsibilities: Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of Special Education instructional services. Assists in the development of the budget for the Special Education Department. Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, and assigning of instructional personnel. Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of professional development activities for the department’s faculty and staff. Works with principals and teachers in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meetings, in order to ensure consistency and continuity in the implementation of the instructional program for special education students from one level to the next. Assists in the reviewing and implementation of the district’s annual goals as they pertain to the Special Education Department. Assists with reviewing and disaggregating data from district-developed assessments, third-party testing programs, and New York State testing programs to ensure the learning needs and IEP goals of students are being met. Supervises the student evaluation and IEP development process to ensure compliance with district policies and NYS laws. Conducts CSE and 504 meetings. Chairs weekly Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Team meetings. Conducts observations and evaluations of the faculty and staff of the Special Education Department. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Valid, Current, New York SDL CertificationFingerprint Clearance from the NY State Department of Education (NYSED)Previous teaching and Google Suite experience preferredSpanish preferred.All interested and qualified individuals must submit an application through the OLAS online posting.
