The REACH Academy in West Harrison, NY - a part of the Greenburgh-North Castle Union Free School District - is seeking a School Counselor for the 2025-2026 school year. The REACH Academy is a highly therapeutic program specializing in working with students who have clinically complex needs. The majority of the student body is on the Autism Spectrum and range in age from 8 to 21 years old. All students receive Alternate Assessment toward a Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential. We do not offer graded programs for students who take standard state assessments. We seek to provide a bridge to the adult world ensuring that all of our students are provided with appropriate supports and services following graduation. Examples of expected duties include:Developing and Overseeing student schedules and academic progress:This involves tracking the enrollment and discharge of students, developing student schedules, quality checking report cards and interim grade reports and reporting IEP progress monitoring.Developing and implementing transition plans:This involves assessing student needs, setting goals, and identifying appropriate services and supports.Facilitating referrals to external agencies:Connecting students and families with resources like ACCES-VR, OPWDD, and Independent Living Centers.Conducting vocational assessments:Identifying and evaluating students' interests, skills, and aptitudes to determine potential career paths.Coordinating school and community resources:Linking students with work-based learning opportunities, internships, and other relevant experiences.Collaborating with IEP teams:Participating in IEP meetings and ensuring that transition services are integrated into students' educational programs.Providing support to students and families:Offering guidance, counseling, and advocacy to help students and families navigate the transition process.Monitoring student progress:Tracking student success in post-secondary education, employment, and community living.
