VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTDIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, PRE-K-12PROBATIONARY(11-MONTH POSITION)Salary: As Per ContractGlen Cove City School District is committed to recruit and hire the most qualified staff members who are dedicated to the success of all students and the Glen Cove City community.Job Description: Lead the enhancement of student achievement and emotional well-being by implementing and maintaining a district-wide special education program that ensures high-quality instruction and services.Qualifications:New York State SDA / SDL CertificationsPrevious administrative/supervisory experience in Special Education requiredBilingual in Spanish preferredFingerprinting clearance requiredEssential Duties (include, but are not limited to):Ensure district compliance with Part 200 of the Commissioner’s Regulations and maintain current knowledge of all procedural changes.Provide leadership to administrators and staff in the effective development and implementation of special education services.Lead evaluation of special education teachers, psychologists, social workers, speech providers, and support staff in alignment with the APPR framework.Serve as Chairperson of the District Committee on Special Education (CSE), including scheduling and chairing district-wide meetings, and oversee the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE).Coordinate and lead the implementation of departmental meetings across special education, psychological services, social work, and speech and language programs.Collaborate with administrators to support and monitor the performance of special education staff.Supervise department relations with parents and ensure delivery of all CSE-recommended and Board-approved services.Oversee the collection and use of medical, psychological, social, and educational reports to inform student placement and programming.Oversee out-of-district placements and collaborate with the transportation office to coordinate student transportation needs.Recommend programs to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction that enhance student growth in both general and special education.Develop and direct a comprehensive district-wide plan to identify and support students requiring remedial and special services.Review and approve professional development requests for staff, and assist with recruitment, screening, and hiring recommendations.Manage IDEA 611 and 619 grant planning and help prepare the district budget under the guidance of the Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations by identifying needs of the special education program.Work in collaboration with central registration of new students and ensure compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.Act as district liaison to SEPTA, BOCES, Nassau County agencies, etc.Attend professional meetings at local, state, and national levels to remain current on developments in special education.Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or their designee.Effective: January 1, 2026Application Instructions: Qualified candidates should apply via OLAS with a resume and letter of interest to Andrew DiNapoli, before the deadline.
