Homestead Primary School Principal The Position: The Garden City School District is seeking a visionary, student-centered (Pre K–1) School Principal to lead a joyful, rigorous learning environment where young children develop strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional growth for Homestead Primary School. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic instructional leader who understands the critical importance of early literacy as the cornerstone of lifelong learning. Homestead School is home to approximately 250 students and 25 staff members. This principal will foster a collaborative school culture that supports high-quality teaching, strong family partnerships, and developmentally appropriate practices aligned to the unique needs of our youngest learners. The District: Garden City is located twenty miles east of Manhattan in the heart of Nassau County, Long Island. Serving approximately 3,900 students in grades K–12, Garden City Public Schools is a high-performing district with a long-standing reputation for excellence in academics, athletics, and performing arts. The district includes three primary schools (grades K–1), two elementary schools (grades 2–5), one middle school (grades 6–8), and one high school (grades 9–12), all supported by a dedicated faculty, rigorous curriculum, and a community deeply committed to educational excellence. Qualifications: An outstanding candidate will possess: Demonstrated expertise in early literacy instruction, including evidence-based reading practices (e.g., phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension) and a strong understanding of how children learn to read in primary grades. Proven instructional leadership experience in early childhood or elementary settings, with a track record of improving student outcomes—particularly in literacy. Deep knowledge of K–1 development, including social-emotional learning, play-based and inquiry-based instruction, and developmentally appropriate assessment practices. Ability to coach and support teachers through classroom observation, feedback, and professional learning focused on high-quality literacy instruction. Experience using data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and implement targeted interventions to ensure all students—including multilingual learners and students with diverse learning needs—achieve literacy success. Effective communication and relationship-building skills, fostering meaningful partnerships with families, staff, and the broader school community. NYS certification in school building administrator or school district administration
