The Position:The Garden City Union Free School District is seeking an exceptional instructional leader for the position of Assistant Principal at Stratford School. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting teaching and learning, supervision of students and staff, will support authentic student learning experiences including problem-based learning, design thinking and inquiry. The Assistant Principal will provide effective supervision, evaluation and professional coaching to instructional and non-instructional staff. He/she will provide leadership to the school community consistent with our district mission and goals.THE DISTRICT:Garden City is located twenty miles east of Manhattan in the heart of Nassau County, Long Island. Close to 3,900 students attend Garden City Public Schools in grades kindergarten through 12. There are three primary schools (grades K and 1), two elementary schools (grades 2-5), one middle school (grades 6-8), and one high school (grades 9-12). This reputation is maintained by a well prepared and dedicated faculty and staff, a challenging curriculum, outstanding student performance and a community committed to educational excellence.QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates should possess the following qualifications:Demonstrated commitment to studentsOutstanding record of achievement and leadership as a teacherStrong interpersonal and communication skillsPassion for teaching and learningNYS certification in school building administrator or school district administrationDemonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, with an emphasis on elementary literacy and mathematicsExperience supporting Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including academic and behavioral intervention planningExperience designing and facilitating professional development that is aligned to district goals, responsive to staff needs, and grounded in current research and best instructional practices.
