Green Chimneys is hiring in our Education department! Green Chimneys School offers a fully integrated approach that includes a complete staff of educators, clinicians, social workers, therapists, farm and wildlife experts, and outdoor specialists who are trained in social skills development, behavior management techniques to assist students in self-regulation skills, and crisis prevention and intervention. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for teaching a self-contained or departmentalized class during a 12-month school year. Specific duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the subject matter the Teacher will teach.For this role we are looking for a 9th grade Special Education, Math Teacher. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:• Develop an I.E.P. (Individualized Educational Program) covering a twelve month period on each student assigned• Update I.E.P. as student masters goals set or at least every six months• Coordinate classroom academic program with program teacher’s I.E.P.’s• Insure that students receive services as described in I.E.P.’s required services section• Develop I.S.P. and update as necessary• Be aware of students treatment goals and incorporates them into the I.S.P.• Participate in all meetings on your assigned students• Complete all necessary reports and documentation as per agency standards• Maintain attractive and educationally appropriate classroom environment• Share in the maintenance of building bulletin board• Participate in all school activities as described by program calendar• Read and understand material outlined in the school and agency manual• Participate in the two Sunday Parent/Teacher Conferences• Complete yearly inventory as scheduled• Work cooperatively with all departments that make up our residential treatment facility• Assist in all ways to create the best possible education program for our students• Attend the weekly faculty and special meetings• Record class daily attendance and be responsible for the accountability of all your students at all times• Participate in any and all necessary QI documentation as per agency requirements• Other duties as assignedJob Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s in Education preferred. Prior field placement in special education preferredLicensure/Certification: NYSED Certification in appropriate area. Will consider uncertified candidates who are actively in or willing to go back to school for teaching and have experience with classroom management and teaching.Starting Salary: $44,850 - $51,750 depending on certification(s).
