Green Chimneys School, a New York State 853 school, is designed for students who have been unsuccessful in a traditional educational setting and who require a highly structured and supportive program. The therapeutic program incorporates academic, behavioral and emotional support in a comprehensive learning environment to help each child achieve new skills and confidence, and return to their home school district with the best chance of success. Green Chimneys School offers: Enriched academic curriculum meeting New York State standards, Experiential learning environment, Innovative nature-based approach, Focus on individual needs and abilities, On-site clinical services and therapeutic support, High staff-to-student ratio, and Certified special education professionals.The Clearpool campus in Carmel, NY provides smaller classes and a more intimate environment for day students in grades 4–8.The Substitute Program Teacher will teach assigned program areas such as Art and Life Skills (other classes as needed) to a group of around 8 special education students.This position requires a Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree in Education preferred. NYS Teaching Certification in either Special Education Secondary certification or Special Education 1-6 certification. Additional NYS certification in students with disabilities preferred. We will consider uncertified candidates who are actively in or willing to go back to school for teaching and have experience with classroom management and teaching.This is a per diem position (as needed) and is not benefit eligible.
