The Greater Amsterdam School District is currently seeking the following:A full-time, 12-month, Middle School Building Principal for the Wilbur H. Lynch Literacy Academy.Lynch Literacy Academy’s mission is to provide a nurturing environment, which promotes student success, embraces diversity and fosters a sense of community for all. Our dedicated staff will enable every child to learn life skills and appropriate curriculum in a safe, inviting environment. Lynch Literacy Academy is also a Comprehensive Support and Improvement School, which requires a strong instructional leadership background to support and thrive the staff and students. The Middle School Building Principal shall be ultimately responsible to the Superintendent of Schools for the complete operational management of the Wilbur H. Lynch Literacy Academy. The Principal shall also be responsible to the District Directors/Assistant Superintendent in the sphere of their responsibility as outlined in the District’s Table of Organization. In particular, the Principal will be responsible for the following duties and is not all inclusive:To provide instructional leadership to the teaching staff in terms of establishing the necessary organization and strategies for grouping of students so that all are receiving appropriate instruction to meet their individual needs.To implement the educational program of the District as it pertains to the educational level served by the building.To evaluate the total staff according to District policy and to make recommendations for improvement in the total educational environment.To plan for the internal structural design as well as the regular building maintenance on an annual basis.To implement fully all Federal, State and District policies and regulations.To assist in the annual budget planning cycle by reflecting the building unit needs and manage the unit budget as adopted by the Board of Education.To work closely with District Directors/Assistant Superintendent and others, as appropriate for interviewing and recommending to the Superintendent of Schools, new employees for the building unit.To keep the Superintendent informed regarding significant incidents and issues related to the operation of the building unit.To be an active participant of the Administrative Staff through the various Regional, District workshops and meetings.To provide appropriate leadership and communications to the school community in general, and parents in particular.To remain current regarding instruction and professional pedagogy. To perform such other duties as may properly come within the scope of said position or as may be requested by the Superintendent of Schools.Qualification Requirements: Must hold a Master’s degree or higher in education and proper NYS Administrative Certification [SAS, SDA, or SBL]. Five (5) or more years of successful classroom experience.Three (3) or more years of successful administrative building or higher experience.Experienced instructional leader that has led positive and needed changes in educational environment(s) through student academics. Urban experience preferred.
