The Greater Amsterdam School District is seeking a probationary appointment for the following:Assistant Director of Special Education QUALIFICATIONS: Current NYS Certification as School District Leader Minimum of 3 years of special education teaching experience Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience preferred Knowledge of State and Federal legislation as it relates to special education REPORT TO: Director of Special Education and Student Support Services RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates the efforts of the special education staff in the areas of compliance, regulatory requirements, and mandated timelines. Provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of professional development for special education staff. ? Assists the Director of Special Education with instructional and curricular leadership. Applies current research and techniques to ensure that all individuals with exceptional needs are appropriately identified, assessed, and provided appropriate educational programs and services designed to meet their unique needs. Provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of special education procedures and processes to ensure Individual Education Plan (IEP)Compliance. Trains, supports, and provides onboarding to newly hired special education teachers/aides. Provides administrative support for Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings as needed. Directs and evaluates special education services and programs. Recommends policies, procedures, and programs that best utilize the School’s personnel and financial resources to ensure a quality education for all special education students. Assists in the planning and preparing of the Special Education Department’s annual budget. Participates and plans the professional development activities to support students with disabilities. ? Consults with parents, administrators, and teachers of students receiving special education services. May assist with the recruiting and hiring of special education personnel. Performs other duties as assigned. EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually according to Board of Education policy. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 months
