TEACHING ASSISTANTSGreater Amsterdam School District (GASD) currently seeks multiple, 10-month, Teaching Assistants for various sites within the district (K-12). GASD's believes that students of all ages can and should learn. We believe that the purpose of our schools is the education of the whole child. To that end, we recognize and promote the opportunities for increased learning that come from improving one’s self esteem, maintaining partnerships with the home and business community, celebrating the community’s cultural diversity, achieving high expectations of excellence in all areas, and we accept the responsibility to provide equality and equity in teaching each student in an environment conducive to learning.Duties include, but are not limited to:Provide, under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher, direct instructional service to students.Assist teachers with lesson preparation (i.e gathering materials, equipment, data sheets, etc).Review lesson material with students individually or in small groups.Oversee students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch. (before or after school duties)Participate and collaborate with teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.Document student progress and communicate with the teacher any trends in strategies.Participate with lead teachers to create lesson plans.Attend all training classes, parent conferences, and faculty meetings.Assists teachers with executing instruction, evaluating its effectiveness and maintaining a data system.If necessary, perform related supplemental instruction pursuant to a student’s IEP.Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; records time out and in class suspension; assists with crisis prevention; restrains students as needed.Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; creates and modifies materials to match student abilities; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.Progress monitoring and data keeping as needed.Performs other related work as required by building principal and classroom teacherMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and/or currently NYS Level I, II or III certified Teaching Assistant.Having fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred, but not a requirement. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************About the Greater Amsterdam School District:Greater Amsterdam School District, serves 3,700 students across 6 schools.
