The Fulton City School District has an immediate opening for a dedicated and compassionate New York State certified School Counselor to join our team at G. Ray Bodley High School.The starting salary for this position is $63,746. In addition, we offer:A Master's Degree Stipend of $2,598.$140 per graduate credit towards a Master's Degree (beyond the initial degree).$500 per year of certified experience.Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.Key Responsibilities:Academic Development:Assist students with course selection, academic planning, and goal setting, specifically in preparation for high school.Monitor academic progress and provide support for students experiencing academic challenges.Collaborate with teachers to identify and address student learning needs.Career Development:Introduce students to various career pathways and educational opportunities, fostering early career exploration.Help students explore their interests, aptitudes, and values in relation to future choices.Provide resources and guidance for future educational and vocational planning.Social-Emotional Development:Provide individual and group counseling to address social, emotional, and behavioral issues relevant to adolescents (grades 7-8).Develop and implement preventative programs related to bullying, conflict resolution, mental health awareness, and healthy relationships.Respond to student crises and provide appropriate interventions and referrals to school and community resources.Support students in developing coping mechanisms, self-advocacy skills, and resilience.Collaboration and Consultation:Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to create a positive, safe, and supportive school environment.Consult with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and available resources, aligning with the district's emphasis on clear and effective communication.Act as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies.Participate in student support team meetings (e.g., CSE/504 meetings) as appropriate.Program Management:Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program aligned with the ASCA National Model and New York State Education Department guidelines.Maintain accurate and confidential student records.Utilize data to inform program development and demonstrate effectiveness.Stay current with best practices in school counseling and relevant educational legislation.Qualifications:New York State School Counselor Certification (required).Master's Degree in School Counseling or a related field from an accredited institution.Knowledge of the developmental needs of adolescents.Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with a commitment to fostering a culture of growth.Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and families.Proficiency in using technology for communication, record-keeping, and program delivery.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
