This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating a rigorous, vertically aligned curriculum that meets state learning standards. The Director collaborates with building administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers to enhance instructional practices, analyze student performance data, and eliminate academic achievement gaps across all school buildings. Qualifications: Aligns the P-12 mathematics curriculum, pacing guides, and report card rubrics with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards. Leads the research, pilot testing, selection, and implementation of high-quality textbooks, digital platforms, and supplemental instructional materials district-wide. Conducts regular classroom walkthroughs and formal evaluations of secondary math teachers and department chairs under the state’s Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) framework. Models exemplary, research-based mathematical teaching strategies and integrates instructional technology tools directly into classroom practices. Aggregates and analyzes local diagnostic data (e.g., i-Ready, NWEA MAP) and state assessment results to isolate systemic learning gaps. Formulates targeted district-wide academic action plans to address underperformance among student subgroups, including English Language Learners (ELL) and Special Education students. Designs and facilitates continuous professional development workshops, professional learning communities (PLCs), and summer institutes for teaching staff. Supervises, mentors, and coordinates the daily schedules and instructional focus of building-level math coaches and specialists. Chairs the district-wide recruitment, screening, and interview committees for all open secondary math teacher and elementary math specialist positions. Formulates, justifies, and manages the annual district-wide math department budget, tracking all curriculum purchases and software licensing agreements. Coordinates dual-enrollment college-credit math tracks and secondary pathways by building relationships with regional higher education institutions. Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited university in Educational Leadership, Mathematics, or a highly related STEM field. Minimum of two (2) years of building or district-level supervisory experience (e.g., Math Department Chair, Instructional Coach, or Administrator). Valid New York State School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) certificate (School Building Leader [SBL] with extensive district experience may be considered).
