Position Overview The Farmingdale Union Free School District is seeking an enthusiastic, highly qualified AIS Reading Teacher for a full-time, probationary (tenure-track) position. The successful candidate will work closely with classroom teachers, instructional support teams, and families to provide targeted, evidence-based reading interventions for students receiving Academic Intervention Services (AIS) within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Primary Responsibilities Design and deliver direct, explicit, and systematic reading instruction to small groups of students in alignment with the Science of Reading. Utilize diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment data (e.g., benchmark assessments, running records, phonemic awareness/phonics diagnostics) to monitor student growth and adjust instruction. Collaborate with classroom teachers and special educators to align intervention strategies with core Tier 1 instruction. Participate actively in Instructional Support Team (IST) and MTSS meetings to evaluate student progress and recommend appropriate intervention tiers. Maintain clear, data-driven records of student performance and communicate progress regularly to parents, guardians, and administrators. Foster a positive, encouraging learning environment that builds student confidence and literacy engagement. Key Qualifications & Requirements NYS Certification: Valid New York State Certification as a Literacy Teacher (Grades Birth–6 or Grades K–12) or Reading Teacher (Required). Deep knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction, structured literacy, and multisensory instructional methods (e.g., Orton-Gillingham or equivalent structured literacy approaches). Proven experience conducting diagnostic literacy assessments and using data to guide small-group intervention. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff and families. Fingerprint clearance through the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
