The Franklin Central School District is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to serve as its School Counselor.The role of an elementary school counselor is multifaceted and crucial for the well-being of students. Here are some essential job duties:Individual Counseling: Provide one-on-one counseling sessions for students dealing with personal or academic issues such as bullying, family problems, self-esteem, or behavioral concerns.Group Counseling: Conduct group counseling sessions addressing common issues among students, such as social skills development, anger management, or grief counseling.Classroom Guidance: Deliver classroom lessons on topics such as conflict resolution, empathy, study skills, or career exploration to promote social and emotional learning. Currently using Character Strong.Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to respond to crises within the school community, such as natural disasters, student emergencies, or incidents of violence, by providing immediate support and coordinating resources.Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to identify and address student needs. This may involve participating in student support teams, developing intervention plans, or providing referrals to outside agencies.Assessment: Conduct assessments to evaluate students' academic, social, and emotional development. This may include administering standardized tests, conducting observations, or utilizing other assessment tools.Advocacy: Advocate for students' rights and needs within the school system. This could involve ensuring access to appropriate educational services, accommodations, or behavioral support plans.Prevention Programs: Develop and implement prevention programs targeting issues such as substance abuse, bullying, or dropout prevention to foster a positive school climate.Parent and Community Outreach: Engage parents and community members through workshops, presentations, or outreach events to provide support and education on relevant topics related to child development and mental health.Professional Development: Stay current on best practices in school counseling through ongoing professional development activities, workshops, and conferences.These duties are designed to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of students, ultimately helping them to succeed both in school and in life.
