The duties and responsibilities of the Laborer are outlined by the Onondaga County Department of Personnel, Civil Service and the F-M specific job duties would include washing and fueling school buses on a daily basis. Candidates must possess a valid CDL license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. The work involves a variety of routine manual tasks requiring little planning or special knowledge and sustained medium to heavy physical effort involving frequent exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. This work is distinguished from other classes performing routine manual tacks as a member of a crew by either the work setting or the degree of specialization. A Laborer has no supervisory responsibilities. An employee in this class also performs routine clerical work and assist with limited clerical duties of assigned station. Positions in this class are supervised by a crew-leader, or other higher-level worker, who assigns tasks giving detailed instructions. The work of the Laborer is subject to close supervision in progress and upon completion, although routine repetitive duties once learned may be performed more independently.
