ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL OPENING Social Studies Teacher (Anticipated)Probationary Start Date:August 27, 2025 Job DescriptionThe East Williston School District seeks a probationary social studies teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. It is anticipated that the position will be at The Wheatley School, grades 8-12. Required Qualifications Social Studies, 7-12 Certification Key Responsibilities and Preferred Skills Designs and implements a social studies curriculum grounded in the New York State K–12 Social Studies Framework, demonstrating a sophisticated understanding of historical content, the social studies practices, and discipline-specific literacy standards Delivers dynamic, student-centered instruction that engages learners in critical examination of historical, geographic, civic, and economic concepts through compelling questions, diverse sources, and real-world connections Develops students' research skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to make critical judgments and contribute to the thoughtful exchange of ideas Strong understanding of how to leverage instructional technology to enhance student learning Promotes students' understanding of media literacy to encourage students to seek out and compare alternative sources of information concerning the key issues of their world Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings Organizes and maintains a system for accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student achievement and attendance as required by district procedures Encourages parental engagement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
