The Physical Therapist provides physical therapy services to students with developmental, neurological, and physical disabilities in a special education school setting. The therapist works as part of a multidisciplinary team to enhance students’ physical functioning, mobility, and independence to support access to the educational environment.Key Responsibilities:Evaluate students’ motor skills, posture, gait, strength, endurance, balance, and mobility within the school environment.Develop individualized physical therapy treatment plans aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).Deliver direct therapy services as well as consultative support in classrooms and therapy rooms.Collaborate with special education teachers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and school staff to integrate therapy into daily routines.Assist in developing adaptive equipment needs and modifications to improve accessibility and safety.Document therapy progress, prepare reports, and participate in IEP meetings.Train staff and caregivers in mobility strategies, positioning, and use of assistive devices.Promote student independence in mobility and physical activities across all school settings.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing physical therapy services in schools.Qualifications:Master’s or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT).Pediatric or school-based experience preferred.Knowledge of the IEP process, and school-based therapy practices.Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.Ability to lift, transfer, and assist students with physical needs.Preferred Skills:Experience with children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other physical and developmental disabilities.Familiarity with adaptive equipment (e.g., gait trainers, standers, wheelchairs).
