Yonkers LocationJob Summary:We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated School Nurse to support the health and well-being of students at our special needs preschool. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children, particularly those with complex medical needs such as tracheostomies (trachs), tube feeding, and other healthcare requirements. This role requires strong clinical knowledge, an understanding of pediatric special needs, and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and families to ensure the safety and comfort of the children.Key Responsibilities:Direct Nursing Care:Provide nursing care to children with special needs, including those with tracheostomies, tube feeding (G-tube, J-tube), and other medical conditions.Monitor and manage the administration of medications and treatments as prescribed.Perform routine and emergency medical procedures such as suctioning, changing tracheostomy tubes, and feeding tube maintenance.Assist with vital signs monitoring (blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, oxygen levels) as needed.Respond to medical emergencies, administering first aid and CPR when necessary.Health Monitoring and Documentation:Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records for each child, including medical history, current treatment plans, and any changes in condition.Record and communicate any incidents or medical events to parents, teachers, and other relevant personnel.Monitor children's health status throughout the school day and report any concerns to appropriate school and medical staff.Collaboration with School Team:Work closely with teachers, classroom aides, and other school staff to support the individual health needs of students.Provide training and guidance to school staff on medical conditions, procedures, and emergency response protocols for children with special needs.Serve as a liaison between the school and parents/guardians to ensure consistent communication regarding student health.Health Education and Advocacy:Educate staff on general health and wellness, including infection control, hygiene, and safety precautions specific to children with special needs.Promote and support the overall health and well-being of students through proactive health strategies.Compliance and Safety:Ensure compliance with school district policies, state regulations, and federal laws regarding health and safety.Ensure that all medical equipment (e.g., suction machines, feeding pumps, emergency supplies) is in good working condition and available when needed.Maintain confidentiality and respect for students’ privacy in line with HIPAA regulations.Qualifications:Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with valid state licensure.Previous experience working with children, particularly in a special needs or pediatric setting, is preferred.Experience with tracheostomy care, tube feeding, and other complex medical needs is required.Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and/or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Knowledge of healthcare standards, pediatric first aid, and emergency procedures.Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to providing the best care to children with special needs.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift and assist students as needed, including those who may be non-ambulatory.Ability to bend, kneel, and perform other physical activities necessary for providing care.
