POSITION: Director of Educational Support Services (ESS)Eastern Suffolk BOCES is seeking a visionary leader for the position of Director of Educational Support Services (ESS). This 12-month executive role is responsible for leading comprehensive educational services for both internal BOCES programs and regional school districts.The Director of ESS plays a critical role in providing executive oversight and strategic coordination of educational support programs and services that strengthen instructional practice and leadership capacity, while also delivering direct programming for students, to advance the implementation of New York State standards, assessments, graduation requirements, and New York State Education Department initiatives across component school districts.LOCATION: Holtsville, NYCORE RESPONSIBILITIES:The Director of ESS provides executive oversight of the following programs and services, which are developed and operated by educational administrators and staff within the department:Academic Summer Enrichment ProgramsArts-in-Education/Exploratory Enrichment/Instructional Musical Instrument ServiceAssessment Scoring ServicesCommunity School Resource Program – Mental Health and Student Support ServicesCurriculum Council (facilitated by the Director to convene district Curriculum and Instruction leaders monthly to address curriculum, instruction, assessment, and NYSED initiatives)Curriculum Support ServicesHigh School Regional Summer SchoolModel Schools Program – Educational Technology Professional Learning and Instructional InnovationRegional Professional DevelopmentSchool Data Bank Services – Analytical Support and Data-Informed Decision-Making for School DistrictsSchool Library System SupportSchool-Year Enrichment ProgramsThird-Party Assessment Program – Oversight and Support of Multiple District Assessment PlatformsSTRATEGIC LEADERSHIP & PLANNING:Systemic Planning: Contribute to central office strategic planning and formulate administrative regulations and departmental procedures.Service Development: Manage new service requests and coordinate the development of CoSers (Cooperative Services)Statewide Representation: Represent the agency on the statewide Staff/Curriculum Development Network (SCDN) and at State Education Department (SED) events.OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT:Budgetary Oversight: Direct the development, monitoring, and amendments of ESS program budgets.Procurement & Compliance: Oversee the departmental procurement process and ensure expert-level compliance with current state and federal education laws.Vendor Contract Oversight & Compliance: Provide executive review and approval of all vendor contracts procured and administered within the Educational Support Services department.COLLABORATIVE INTERACTION:Liaison Duties: Act as a primary liaison to District Superintendent, Superintendents, Board members, and regional administrators regarding Commissioner’s regulations and NYS education law.Communication: Facilitate the Curriculum Council and serve as a spokesperson for the Associate Superintendent regarding public or press inquiries. Special Initiatives: Act as a liaison to federal and state initiatives, including, Regionalization and upcoming initiatives.EVALUATION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:Staff Supervision: Provide annual performance evaluations for educational administrators, and civil service staff.Instructional Excellence: Provide executive leadership and oversight to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality, innovative professional learning aligned with research-based best practices, New York State standards, and district needs.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Certification: Must hold New York State Certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA).Reporting: This position reports directly to the Associate Superintendent for Educational Services.Terms of Employment: This is a twelve-month position with salary and benefits established by the Board.START DATE: July 1, 2026SALARY: $186,000.00Studies show that women and members of some groups are more likely to underestimate their qualifications for a position.
