Elementary Principal, Rhame Avenue School — Probationary The East Rockaway School District is accepting applications for an open probationary administrative position for Principal of Rhame Avenue School, an elementary school building that houses many of the district's special education services. A strong background in special education is preferred. The district is seeking a motivated leader who meets the following qualifications: New York State Certification: School Building Leader (SBL) or School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) required; School District Leader (SDL) preferred. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of public-school teaching experience required. Prior administrative or teacher-leadership experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess the following qualities: Commitment to continuous personal improvement through continuous learning and collaboration Strong background in and knowledge of supporting students with diverse learning needs Demonstrated experience developing a master schedule; familiarity with a six (6) day cycle preferred Empathetic, caring, and approachable leadership style balanced with clear expectations and accountability for staff and students to ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment for all Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with staff, students, and families Highly visible with a hands-on approach, with a willingness to take on a servant-leadership role when the needs of the building require it Fresh ideas and innovative perspectives to support and elevate outcomes for all students; willingness to always put kids first Comfort leading difficult conversations grounded in positive, trust-based relationships that make those conversations more productive Experience implementing curriculum initiatives, project-based learning, and instructional technology The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities, which are subject to change: Oversee the daily instructional and social-emotional progress of the students of Rhame Avenue School Build and manage the building's master schedule, including a six (6) day cycle Supervise and support staff through strong relationships and mutual goals Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, including leading conversations regarding student discipline and behavior Manage the daily operations of the building through strong, interpersonal connections with all staff from clerical to custodial and beyond.
