Position Overview: The Environmental/Life Science Special Education Teacher will create and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction in life and environmental sciences to high school students with IEPs. The successful candidate will adapt curriculum, collaborate with faculty and families, and assess student progress, ensuring students with special needs access the general education science curriculum with appropriate modifications and supports. Key Responsibilities Design and deliver lessons in Environmental and Life Sciences aligned with NY State standards and IEP goals Differentiate instruction and provide accommodations, modifications, and specialized strategies Collaborate with general education science teachers, related services staff, and school leaders Administer and interpret assessments; monitor student progress and maintain data/tracking systems Write, update, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, host IEP meetings, and support transitions Participate in supervision, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment Required Qualifications: NYS Certification in: Students with Disabilities (7–12) Environmental Science (7–12) or Biology (7–12) Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) Experience teaching science to students with disabilities at the secondary level Strong knowledge of life and environmental science topics (e.g., ecology, genetics, physiology), instructional strategies, behavior management, and assistive technology Excellent collaboration and communication skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with co-teaching models Familiarity with UDL and PBIS frameworks Experience adapting content for diverse learners and multi-lingual populations Willingness to lead extracurricular science or environmental initiatives Salary and Benefits Salary is commensurate with Experience Benefits: Medical, Dental and Vision
