Job Posting: Director of English Language Arts (7–12)Location: DistrictwideType: Full-time, 12-month positionStart Date: July 1, 2025Application Deadline: June 1, 2025 or until position is filledThe East Ramapo Central School District is seeking a forward-thinking and experienced instructional leader to serve as the Director of English Language Arts (ELA), 7–12. This is a critical leadership role for a passionate educator who is committed to equity, instructional excellence, and fostering a love for literacy and learning across all grade levels.The Director of ELA will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a rigorous, culturally responsive, and standards-aligned English Language Arts curriculum. This leader will support and coach teachers, design high-impact professional development, and drive instructional practices that enhance student achievement. The candidate must demonstrate proven success to improve student achievement and possess experience in a large, diverse district with a substantial multilingual student population.Key Responsibilities:Lead the design, alignment, and implementation of 7–12 ELA curriculum aligned to New York State and Next Generation Learning Standards.Collaborate with Executive Directors and school leaders to ensure consistency and rigor in instructional delivery district-wide.Facilitate high-quality, job-embedded professional development and instructional coaching for ELA educators.Use student achievement and teacher performance data to inform instructional strategy and provide targeted support.Work closely with ENL and support staff to integrate multilingual education (MLE) practices into science curriculum and instructional delivery.Support educators in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students from diverse backgrounds.Partner with stakeholders to promote literacy initiatives, community engagement, and culturally relevant teaching practices.Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum and instruction through observations, feedback, and assessment data.Contribute to strategic planning efforts and district-wide instructional initiatives.Required Qualifications:Master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.Valid New York State teacher certification in English Language Arts.NYS School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification.Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in science.Proven track record in instructional leadership and improving student achievement.Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and data analysis.Experience supporting diverse student populations, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities. Preferred Qualifications:Deep knowledge of NYS standards, assessments, and research-based instructional practices.Strong coaching, mentoring, and facilitation skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.Data-driven mindset and strong organizational skills.Collaborative, reflective, and equity-focused leadership style.Work Environment:Must be available to travel to schools across the district.Work may occur in classrooms, district offices, or remote settings, as needed.Salary and Benefits:Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
