Job Posting: School Bus Route InspectorPosition: School Bus Route Inspector Location: East Ramapo School District Job Type: Full-Time Reports To: School Transportation Safety InspectorJob Summary:The East Ramapo School District is seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious School Bus Route Inspector to assess and improve the efficiency and safety of bus routes. This position plays a critical role in ensuring student transportation is conducted in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The School Bus Route Inspector will work closely with the transportation department, school administrators, bus drivers, and transportation contractors to ensure optimal route planning and compliance with district policies.Key Responsibilities:Conducts on-site inspections of bus routes to assess road conditions, traffic patterns, and potential hazards.Evaluates route efficiency and safety and recommends improvements as needed.Maintains detailed records of route inspections, adjustments, and changes.Addresses and resolves bus route issues in collaboration with transportation staff.Responds to transportation-related emergencies or accidents and provides reports and recommendations.Collaborates with the transportation department to plan and adjust routes based on road conditions, student needs, and district priorities.Conducts bus pass checks at designated stops to ensure student compliance and eligibility.Assists in establishing and revising bus routes to accommodate student population changes and district needs effectively.Utilizes route planning software to develop efficient, safe, and effective bus schedules.Analyzes traffic patterns, school schedules, and geographic challenges to optimize bus routes.Ensures adherence to district policies, transportation laws, and safety regulations.Communicates with school personnel, parents, and drivers regarding transportation concerns and route changes.Coordinate bus safety drills with schoolsQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in transportation management or related field is a plus.two (2) years of experience driving a school bus with a capacity of twenty-one (21) or more passengers. NOTE: Possession of a valid driver’s license is required at the time of application and must be maintained throughout the course of employment.Experience in school transportation, logistics, or route planning preferred.Familiarity with route planning software and mapping tools.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively with district staff.Knowledge of local road conditions, traffic regulations, and school transportation policies.Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner.Valid driver’s license required.19A certifiedSBDI certification is a plusApplication Process:Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter detailing their qualifications and experience.
