DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES Position: Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services Location: East Moriches Union Free School District Anticipated Start Date: August 3, 2026 Application Deadline: July 15, 2026 The East Moriches Union Free School District is seeking a highly qualified, student-centered, and collaborative educational leader to serve as the Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services. The District serves approximately 800 students in kindergarten through grade 8. Upon completion of eighth grade, students may attend Westhampton Beach, Center Moriches, or Eastport-South Manor High Schools. Required Qualifications New York State School District Leader certification or School District Administrator certification. Minimum of five years of successful teaching, pupil personnel, special education, and/or administrative experience. Demonstrate expertise in special education, pupil personnel services, CSE/CPSE processes, and IEP development and implementation. Thorough knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, New York State Part 200 Regulations, and related state and federal mandates. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, supervisory, and collaborative skills. Demonstrate strong problem-solving, conflict-resolution, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Model and support best practices for special education teachers, related service providers, and staff. Use data to evaluate programs, monitor student progress, inform decision-making, and recommend program improvements. Maintain a student-centered approach that promotes access, equity, inclusion, and success in the least restrictive environment. Preferred Qualifications Prior administrative experience in special education and/or pupil personnel services. Successful classroom teaching experience in special education. Experience chairing CSE and/or CPSE meetings. Experience supervising and evaluating special education teachers, related service providers, and support staff. Experience working with BOCES, private schools, out-of-district placements, and outside agencies. Experience with special education budgeting, Medicaid compliance, state reporting, and NYSED monitoring or audit processes. Experience providing leadership and oversight for English as a New Language, school health services, McKinney-Vento homeless education, home instruction, special education summer school, and federal Title I, II, and IV programs. Terms of Employment Twelve-month administrative position. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
