At the heart of the East Moriches Union Free School District is a vibrant and close-knit community that values collaboration and respect.The East Moriches Union Free School District is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as Principal of our Middle School (grades 5-8). With approximately 300 students, our Middle School provides a crucial period in the educational journey of our young learners as they prepare to transition to our neighboring school districts for their secondary education. This position reports to the Superintendent of Schools and is provided a four-year probationary appointment. The expectations are listed below and as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.Minimum Qualifications:NYS Certification SBL/SAS/SDA (required)Students with Disabilities/Related Services NYSED Certification (strongly preferred)Prior Experience as a Middle School Principal (strongly preferred)Successful Candidates Possess:1. Instructional Leadership: The candidate must have a strong understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices to support teachers in delivering high-quality instruction. They must be able to provide direct and specific feedback, model effective teaching strategies, and facilitate professional development. Continue to implement data-driven strategies to monitor student progress, develop partnerships with our feeder high school districts, identify areas for improvement, and enhance instructional practices to meet the diverse needs of all learners.2. Communication: The candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills crucial for building positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members. Principals must communicate clearly and empathetically, listen actively, and foster open dialogue. The candidate must use a variety of methodologies to inform and engage staff, parents, students, and the community at large.3. Leadership: The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills to inspire, motivate, and empower their team. They must be able to set a clear vision, establish meaningful goals, make strategic decisions, and effectively delegate responsibilities. The candidate must be flexible and strongly desire to be an effective school leader within a small school district.4. Problem-Solving: The candidate will encounter various challenges on a daily basis. The successful candidate will need to be adept at analyzing problems, identifying root causes, communicating clearly, and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.5. Collaboration: The candidate must collaborate in creating a positive school culture and fostering a sense of teamwork among all stakeholders. The candidate must collaborate with teachers, staff, parents, and community members to address common goals and initiatives. They must collaborate with district and building administrators to ensure high-quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment within and across grade levels to promote student personal and academic success. They must foster strong partnerships with our feeder high school districts and related educational institutions to facilitate support for special area staff and ensure a seamless transition for students as they progress to secondary education.6. Organizational Skills: The candidate must be highly organized and efficient in managing the day-to-day operations of the school. They must strategically manage staff resources, assigning and scheduling teachers and staff to roles and responsibilities that optimize their professional capacity to address each student's learning needs.7. Emotional Intelligence: The candidate must demonstrate strong emotional intelligence to navigate challenging situations, resolve conflicts, and provide support to students, staff, and families. They must be empathetic, approachable, and able to remain calm under pressure.8. Adaptability: Education is constantly evolving, and the candidate must be adaptable and flexible in response to changes in policies, technologies, and educational practices. They must be willing to embrace innovation and continuously seek opportunities for personal and professional growth and improvement.9.
