DIRECTOR OF, PHYISICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH AND ATHLETICSQUALIFICATIONS:- A Certificate in School District Leadership- Certification in Physical Education or Health Education (Preferred) DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:The Athletic Director is a dynamic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the athletic programs within the school or organization. This role requires strategic vision, strong organizational skills, and a passion for fostering student-athletes’ development both on and off the field. The Athletic Director ensures compliance with regulations, promotes sportsmanship, and builds a culture of excellence. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIESHealth and Physical EducationAssists Directors of Education in the development and supervision of comprehensive curriculum for Physical Education and Health of grades Pre K-12Ensures the fidelity of NYS mandates and school policies pertaining to Health and Physical Education.Assists in recruiting, interviewing, screening, and recommending qualified people to fill openings on the Health and PE staff.Is responsible for providing professional development for the Health and Physical Education staff.Collaborates with physical education teachers, school principals, coaches and staff to develop budget cycles involving equipment purchases and licensing.Coordinates with the maintenance team to ensure that all fields and facilities are properly maintained to assure a safe place to participate in physical education.Attends relevant school, district, and state level meetings to ensure the district is complaint with regulations and laws.Serves as an evaluator of record for unannounced observations for Health and Physical Education teachers AthleticsIs responsible for the coordination of all district’s athletic programs, including sports teams, after school programming, extracurricular athletics and outside athletic group usage.Fosters school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic programSupervises all District Athletic Managers and paid Supervisors at each home athletic contest.Responsible for revision and distribution of the annual coaches’ handbookEnsure that the district programs follow all laws, mandates, and policies set up by the state, section, league and school.Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events including cancellations and postponements. This includes communication and maintaining the school website.Organizes and arranges for officials, team physician, police officers, athletic trainer and supervisory personnel, also assumes responsibility for proper supervision of home contests.Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulation governing conduct at athletic activities.Verifies student eligibility for participation.Collaborate with School Business Official to prepare and administer the athletic program budge, including requisitions for supplies, uniforms, and equipment for athletic programs.Supervises extracurricular accounts in conjunction with the extracurricular treasurer. Coordinates with the school nurse for physical examinations for all athletesCoordinates the development of practice schedules.Meets with the appropriate athletic staff prior to each sports season to coordinate and review all state and school policies regarding athletics.Evaluates all coachesCommunicates and collaborates the with Elmira City School Dsitrict bus garage to arrange transportation each sports season.Responsible for interviewing, reference checking and recommending lifeguards, volunteer coaches and athletic coaches for the Elmira City School District.Represents the Elmira City School District at all leagues, district, and state level meetings.Works with the maintenance staff to ensure that all fields and facilities are properly maintained to assure a safe place to participate in athletics.EVALUATIONPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
