The Special Education Teacher assigned to the 8:1:2 Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) first-grade classroom is responsible for providing highly individualized, evidence-based instruction to students with autism and other developmental disabilities. The teacher will implement a structured instructional program that emphasizes skill acquisition through discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment teaching, and small-group instruction while fostering communication, independence, academic growth, and positive social-emotional development. Students in this classroom present with a range of learning, communication, sensory, and behavioral needs. Several students require individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and receive support from dedicated one-to-one teaching assistants. The teacher is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring individualized instructional programs aligned with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), collecting and analyzing student data, collaborating with related service providers, supervising classroom support staff, and maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment. Essential Responsibilities: * Deliver individualized instruction using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies, including discrete trial training (DTT), task analysis, prompting hierarchies, reinforcement strategies, and data-driven decision-making. * Provide differentiated small-group and individualized instruction in academic, communication, adaptive, social, and functional skills. * Implement and monitor students’ IEP goals, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and positive behavior support strategies with fidelity. * Collect, maintain, and analyze student performance and behavioral data to monitor progress and inform instructional decisions. * Supervise, coach, and collaborate with teaching assistants, including one-to-one aides, to ensure consistent implementation of instructional and behavioral programming. * Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, BCBAs, and other related service providers to support student success. * Create and maintain a highly structured, organized, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student independence and minimizes challenging behaviors. * Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress, behavior, and instructional programming. * Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings, professional development, and multidisciplinary team meetings. * Ensure compliance with all New York State special education regulations, district policies, and documentation requirements. Qualifications: * New York State Certification in Special Education. * Training and experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) preferred. * Experience implementing discrete trial instruction and behavior intervention strategies. * Strong classroom management, collaboration, communication, and data collection skills. * Ability to effectively lead and supervise classroom support personnel while fostering a collaborative team environment.
