The Elmsford Union Free School District is looking for a self-motivated Teaching Assistant with the ability to ensure student success and support initiatives set by the classroom teacher. The candidate must be able to support a climate that promotes respect, tolerance, and peaceful problem solving for all students. Demonstrated ability to utilize instructional technology and has a passion for educating children. The position may be assigned to any level; Pre-K through12 but is expected to be initially assigned to the primary level. Appropriate NYS certification is mandatory for consideration.This is a Tenure-Track position with benefits according to the District's agreement with the Elmsford Teaching Assistants.GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting in the implementing of instructional methods and supporting each student in classroom activities that further develop the instructional program as outlined by the classroom's Special Education Teacher or Common Area Subject Teacher. The Teacher Assistant is also responsible for the supervision and behavioral management of students in classroom activities.SKILLS & ABILITIES:Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a classroom teacherDemonstrated ability to appropriately supervise students in a classroom setting and while transitioning around the school buildingDemonstrated ability to implement the instructional program as presented by the classroom teacherWillingness to be involved in a program of professional developmentDemonstrated ability to be an active and involved partner in the classroom processDemonstrated ability to work with students in your classroom especially when some students may be behaviorally challengingDemonstrated ability to assist parents and guardians in understanding the academic needs of their children and developing ways for them to influence home activities that will enhance academic growth
