Permanent Substitute TeacherMiddle School (Grades 6-8)2025-2026Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, to support student success and continuity of instruction by providing coverage for teacher absences across various subjects and grade levels; implementing lesson plans provided by classroom teachers or the school; maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment; monitoring student behavior and engagement; and communicating as needed with students, staff, and administrators regarding instructional activities and student progress.Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesProvides instructional coverage in the absence of classroom teachers across a variety of subjects and grade levels, ensuring continuity of learning.Implements lesson plans and instructional materials left by the regular teacher or provided by school staff to facilitate student learning.Maintains a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to learning, supporting both individual and group engagement.Adapts teaching methods and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special needs, as appropriate and within the scope of the substitute assignment.Promotes responsible student behavior and reinforces school and classroom expectations in accordance with district policies and procedures.Supervises students in both classroom and non-classroom settings during the school day, including transitions, lunch, and dismissal as assigned.Communicates as needed with students, teachers, and administrators to support instructional goals and address any student concerns.Follows building-level and district-wide procedures for attendance, record-keeping, and student safety during substitute assignments.Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and flexibility in responding to a range of instructional and supervisory needs across the school.Participates in school activities such as faculty meetings, professional learning, or school events when appropriate and as directed by administration.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.Ability to organize and coordinate work.Ability to communicate effectively with students and faculty.Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.QualificationsCertification/License: NY 7-12 Certification preferred EducationBachelor's from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.Master's Degree preferred.Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.Employment Terms: Days: 186 days per school yearHours: 7:45 AM - 2:55 PM, lunch breakSalary: $200 per diemHealth Insurance: Single Coverage included (for certified individuals only)Experience*Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law ยงยง305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
