Secondary School Principal - Previous Applicants Need Not ApplyEast Islip Middle SchoolJOB GOAL: To promote the educational development of each student through the application of leadership, supervisory, and management skills. The secondary principal at the East Islip Middle School will perform administrative tasks, which promote an exemplary education program through a demonstrated drive to foster student achievement, with an emphasis on establishing a school environment which cultivates a culture of care. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Secondary School Principal is responsible for the character and quality of the overall management of the school, providing leadership and coordination to ensure that all students have the best education possible within the school and community. The Secondary School Principal will perform the following duties and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or his designee: Establish and maintain a clear vision for the school in collaboration with staff, students, parents, and the wider community.Implement all aspects of the Annual Professional Performance Review.Actively supervise, and evaluate teachers and staff members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.Promote ongoing professional growth and development for all staff members.Stimulate curricular development and implementation; monitor, articulate and evaluate program process and outcomes to guarantee quality education.Analyze assessment data to update curriculum and address student needs in coordination with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Initiate, design, implement and evaluate students’ activities consistent with the educational goals for the school district and the school population served.Maintain a safe environment for students and staff that is conducive to teaching and learning.Promote the establishment of a respectful and productive environment for all staff and students to promote achievement, teamwork, and a culture of care.Be a visible presence to set an example of engagement and involvement for all students and staff members.Promote effective communication between the school and community to create positive support, understanding, and participation for continued school improvement.Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Administration, and work with appropriate administrators, in the recruiting, screening, hiring, orienting, training, and assigning of the school’s certified and classified personnel to contribute to the selection of the best qualified candidate.Remain current in practice regarding changes and developments in the profession, by attending professional meetings and discussing developments with others in the field to ensure quality leadership.Complete all Federal and State reporting.Complete Federal, State, and local assessment reports and requirements.Support all building staff and provide leadership and guidance.Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned or required by the Superintendent and/or his designee.REQUIREMENTS: New York State SBL or SAS CertificationPlease address letter of interest to Dr. Aileen O'Rourke, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Administration.In addition to applying on OLAS.
