OverviewDevelopmental Disabilities Institute, DDI, is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities and other special needs. DDI has been a part of Long Island for over 50 years serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism, other developmental disabilities and special needs. DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various educational settings, residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services.Physical Therapists in the Children’s Day Program are creative, energetic, career-oriented teaching professionals who are motivated to educate individuals with developmental disabilities in an ungraded self-contained classroom. Physical Therapists are offered on-going trainings and support provided by board certified behavior analysts and other qualified professionals to enhance and maximize career growth. Our school programs operate on a 12-month calendar. See full job description for qualifications and responsibilities.Qualifications· Licensed in Physical Therapy by NYSED with current registration· Exemption to license as described by state law may be substituted (ie: limited permit)· Experience treating children with disabilities preferredResponsibilities· Evaluate, assess or screen clients using appropriate standardized testing and clinical observational skills· Provide Physical Therapy services according to mandated paperwork (i.e. IEP’s, IFSP etc)· Provide required documentation for services that your program and/or supervisor have outlined for you.· Maintain documentation in a professional, efficient, accountable and confidential manner.· Attend all meetings as scheduled and collaborate with other professionals, staff and families.· Maintain and update professional knowledge, skills and abilities through appropriate continuing education, in-service training or higher education.· Evaluate, fit and adjust prosthetic, orthotic and adaptive equipment devices.· Consult with equipment technicians, physicians or others related to the clients needs· All other duties as assignedDDI is committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and employees without regard to actual or perceived race, color, sex, pregnancy, reproductive decision making, gender expression or identity, national origin, disability, military status, creed, religion, age, sexual orientation, marital status, genetic information, status as a victim of domestic violence or any other group protected by federal, state or local law.
