TITLE: Assistant School Health & Safety Coordinator LOCATION: Support Services Center; job duties require travel BOCES wide. REPORTS: Health and Safety Coordinator TERMS: Full-time, 12 months QUALIFICATIONS: Competitive Civil Service position. Candidates must meet the minimum Civil Service qualifications and successfully complete the exam. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Earth Science, Emergency Management, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Health & Safety Management, or closely related field, AND six months of experience in occupational safety and health programming; OR Associate’s degree in one of the fields listed in (A) above AND two and a half (2½) years of experience in Occupational safety and health programming; or Four and a half (4½) years of full time or part time paid experience. Depending on assignment the following may be required to be obtained after permanent appointment: Asbestos Inspector/Management Inspector Certificate(s), and Code Enforcement Official Certification. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Assists the Health & Safety Coordinator in the development, establishment, and implementation of health, safety, and risk management programs in schools, as well as maintaining compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations. This includes: Assisting in matters of review and compliance with Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies and record keeping, including implementing changes and programs to document with health and safety laws and regulations and emergency planning procedures; Assisting school districts with matters related to asbestos, pesticide handling, and universal and hazardous waste removal; Assisting with maintenance of an accident/illness record keeping system; Scheduling and conducting trainings, workshops, drills and other similar activities, including pre-recording trainings for asynchronous viewing, including incident command training and emergency exercise drills; Performing safety, fire and structural inspections of buildings, as well as inspecting fire extinguishers, and other life/safety equipment; Conducting indoor air quality investigations; Providing and/or coordinating training and information programs in conjunction with emergency response agencies for school personnel, parents and community groups; Documenting compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to health, safety and emergency planning Assist with School Bus Driver and Monitor Training, testing and maintaining records, maintain a variety of written reports. Good knowledge of Federal ASHA, NYS Department of Labor safety and health regulations, BYS Fire and Building Codes, and Universal and Hazardous Waste regulations; Good knowledge of SAVE, RESCUE, DASA and other State Education Regulations pertaining to incident command system, violence, harassment, and bullying; Good knowledge in all areas of School Bus Driver and Monitor regulations SALARY/BENEFITS: Annual Salary of $47,200, plus experience. Includes generous health, dental, and state retirement benefits as well as generous paid leave time based on the BOCES Administrators Association (BAA) contract.
