NOTICE OF ANTICIPATED VACANCY Position: Central Valley Central School District has an opening for Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Pre K-12, a title that is designated as a 12-Month Position. The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction sets the strategic vision and direction for the instructional framework and pedagogical approach to Central Valley’s academic programs, and is a key lever to accomplish Board and Superintendent Goals. The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction is the spokesperson and resident expert on curriculum, instruction, pedagogy, and learning. This role develops the short and long-term instructional vision for Central Valley and works to establish a culture of high expectation and shared responsibility for equitable access to high quality and culturally relevant instruction. The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction will create authentic partnerships between district offices and schools that ensure closer alignment of district resources with school needs, to implement an instructional plan for the district that ensures effective teaching in every classroom and creates conditions that ensure systemic improvement of practice over time in every classroom. Reports to: The Superintendent of Schools Job Goal: To provide leadership in strategic planning, curriculum development, research and evaluation, exceptional student education, student services, career, community, technical education, instructional media and technology, federal programs, and staff development. Qualifications: Minimum five years successful teaching experience and seven years of building level leadership experience or central office administration experience.The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction will possess New York State Administrative Certification and meet all state requirements (SDA)Master's Degree from an accredited educational institution required.Knowledge of the NYS Regents Reform Initiatives, research on effective instruction, curricula adoption, student assessments, and professional learning.A clear track record of improving academic outcomes for students and eliminating disparities in achievement. Supervisory Roles and Responsibility: Development and implementation of the district’s curriculum Pre K-12.Development and implementation of the district’s instructional model Pre K-12.Supervises all Principals, HR Director, and Director of Student Services. Conducts annual performance appraisals of these individuals and makes recommendations for appropriate employment actions.Administrative oversight of the district’s library/media specialists, instructional software, and SLS budget.Development, implementation, and coordination of the district’s AIS and RTI programs.Development, implementation, and coordination of the district’s Professional Development Plan.Responsible for the planning and leadership of curriculum and instruction district-wide Pre K-12, including current district initiatives.Will provide district-wide leadership in the area of curriculum and instruction.Will lead the district in meeting the district’s Mission Statement with regard to instructional practices by continually assessing and analyzing student performance to determine ways to incorporate processes for continuous improvement.Assists in development and implementation of the district’s evaluation plan.Oversees the summer school program and helps to assist with its organization and implementation.Provides leadership in identifying and acquiring appropriate teaching materials, textbooks, and equipment.Oversees all district grants (with the exception of special education grants).Assists with the recruitment, selection, and placement of instructional and administrative personnel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Makes recommendation in consultation with teachers, Administrators, and other staff, reviews district-wide curriculum and makes recommendations for monitoring and evaluating curriculum effectiveness and student learning.Develops and implements Pre-K-12 curriculum development with specific plans to implement curriculum coordination, integration and articulation.Reviews recent developments in curriculum and assessment to remain current with new requirements and State Education Department Mandates.Works with the district-wide staff to organize, implement and evaluate a comprehensive staff development program.Conducts teacher evaluations as needed.Spends meaningful time in each school providing building and classroom visits and assistance to teachers and Administrators with feedback.Facilitates integration of instruction through curriculum mapping strategies; includes but is not limited to Title I and other outside grants.Provides budget for the areas under the jurisdiction of Curriculum and Instruction.Responds to parent calls or complaints concerning Curriculum and Instruction as needed.Serves as liaison between the State Education Department and the instructional staff of the district in communicating and planning program requirements of state statutes, Board of Regents rules, Commissioner of Education regulations, and mandated federal programs.Other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.Serves as the designee in the absence of the Superintendent. Instructional Leadership: Delivers written and oral presentations on academic accountability to various stakeholders (i.e. Board of Education, principals, teachers, parents, and community groups).Serves as the key spokesperson to the Superintendent, Board, and the community regarding all educational issues (i.e. attend regular Board meetings, committee meetings, and other related meetings). Instructional Management and Coordinated Services: Serves as the lead Principal, HR Director, and Director of Student Services evaluator. Talent Management and Professional Learning: Constructs and leads highly effective, innovative academic teams that are assessed on the ability to continually improve instructional practices.Build capacity of central office, building Administrators, HR Director, Director of Student Services, and teachers to implement inclusive practices for all students. Communication: Maintains a close working relationship with the Administrative Team, HR Director, Director of Student Services, to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts, and general support for the decision-making process.Works closely with the Administrative Team, HR Director, and Director of Student Services, to support school improvement initiatives and processes.Maintains communication with other agencies and school districts to share and receive information on effective programs and practices.Reports on the status of curriculum and instructional programs and services, including assessment and evaluation information, at the request of the Superintendent. Critical Thinking: Assists in the development of policies and administrative guidelines for curriculum and instructional services.Uses technology effectively. Decisiveness: Makes and shares decisions in a timely manner.Responds quickly to school needs and concerns.Responds immediately to emergency situations.Provides relevant information and data to others in a timely manner. Proactive Orientation: Provides leadership, oversight, and direction for the overall activities of planning all district instructional and non-instructional support programs. Continuous Improvement:Attends meetings and conferences which promote professional growth and will benefit the district.Promotes and supports professional development for self and others. Key Competencies: Demonstrates belief and holds self and others accountable for reaching high academic achievement of all scholars.
