The Central Islip School District, is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Secondary General Music Teacher. This is a new full-time, tenure-track position being added to the Central Islip Music Program as the district continues to expand opportunities for students. The successful candidate will foster student growth in music appreciation, creativity, music literacy, performance understanding, and musical expression through engaging, inclusive, and standards-based general music instruction. This position is primarily based in the High School Music Program, with a small portion of the assignment supporting Middle School General Music classes. The majority of the teaching schedule will be dedicated to high school general music coursework. This is a non-ensemble position with no ensemble, marching band, concert, or other performance-related responsibilities. The assignment is focused exclusively on secondary general music instruction. Candidates with very strong piano/accompaniment skills and candidates who are bilingual in Spanish will be highly valued throughout the interview process. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Preparing and teaching engaging Grades 7â8 General Music lessons in collaboration with music department colleagues Preparing and teaching engaging Grades 9â12 General Music courses, such as Music Theory I, Beginning Guitar, Beginning Piano, Fundamentals of Music, and similar general music courses Supporting the possible future expansion into Pre-AP and AP Music Theory coursework Collaborating with building and department colleagues to support a positive school and music department culture Demonstrating strong classroom management, organization, communication, and instructional planning skills Strong Candidates Will Have a strong background in music theory, music literacy, and general music instruction Possess very strong piano and accompaniment skills Have a strong background in guitar instruction Think creatively and incorporate innovative instructional strategies Inspire and engage students of all backgrounds in the general music classroom Understand and apply the New York State Arts Standards Collaborate effectively with department and building colleagues Balance priorities while remaining prepared, organized, flexible, and student-centered Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish Qualifications Current New York State Music Kâ12 Certification required Spanish Speaking - preferred Piano/Accompaniment Skills - preferred Strong Guitar Skills - preferred
